With strong winter precipitation, there has been severe flooding throughout parts of California during the 2022-23 rainy season. Forecasts also indicate that temperatures throughout the state may remain high, complicating the precipitation picture. 

Local, state, and federal agencies in California work together to forecast and respond to flooding and disasters. California’s academic institutions serve as a tremendous resource both in offering everything from near-term management advice to farmers and ranchers to the innovative work being carried out by researchers on a vast array of related issues.
